Converting X12 EDI 837I Institutional Claims to CSV

You can now convert 837I (institutional/hospital claims) X12 EDI files to the comma-separated values (CSV) format using our EDI API or the CLI tool.

To see an example, navigate to this claim and select “Export/CSV (All Fields).”

For small files, you can use our free EDI Viewer to convert, upload your file and click “Download CSV.”

We’ve added DRG code and several other new fields to our CSV file layout for 835.

The changes affect CSV files produced by our converter tools (EDI API, CLI converter) and our EDI Viewer product.

These changes are part of the release 2.10.5 of the API and the CLI.

Release 2.10 of EDI Converter

We’re pleased to announce the release 2.10.4 of our EDI conversion and parsing tools.

The following are the key new features of this version:

Full support for streaming when processing large EDI files. The streaming mode allows you to convert files of unlimited size.
Single stateless container without database dependency
Docker-less installation is also fully supported
Only two API endpoints, one for JSON conversion and one for CSV conversion
Improved flexibility when converting to CSV. You can use one of the predefined conversion schemas or create your own. You can configure what fields to include or exclude and how to convert repeating segments.

Changes to the CSV Output Format

We’ve implemented several changes to the CSV output produced by the EDI API and the CLI converter as well as our EDI Viewer product.

The purpose of the changes is to make column names more intuitive and to add several missing and derived fields. The derived fields are calculated based on the values in other columns.

These changes are part of the release 2.10.4 of the API and the CLI.

EDI API Server Getting Started Guide

You can run our EDI conversion and parsing API server locally on your laptop or server using Docker or Java. The server does not connect to any external services. You will need a license key to run it.

277CA and 277 Examples

We’ve added several interactive examples of 277 transactions to our collection of EDI examples.

277CA (claim acknowledgment) transactions are sent in response to 837 transactions.

They contain processing statuses and failed edits applied by the payer.

277 response can also be initiated separately by sending a 276 status request.
